CHBA - Alberta Releases MGA Overview
The Alberta government has introduced Bill 21, the Modernized Municipal Government Act, proposing changes to the Municipal Government Act (MGA). Click here to read the news release.
The government plans to approve the final version of Bill 21 in November of this year. Consultations on the extensive accompanying regulations would then begin with business, industry and municipalities with the goal of having the changes in place in time for municipal elections in the fall of 2017. The regulations will determine the detail for nearly all policy areas impacted by this legislation.
